A leading global e-commerce retailer faced a massive bottleneck: translating low-resolution, RGB web uploads into high-fidelity, CMYK, bleed-corrected print files.
Clavis Tech developed a bespoke Adobe Photoshop Plugin that serves as an automated production line. By codifying expert prepress knowledge into a ‘one-click’ server-side engine, we’ve enabled the client to scale their daily output from hundreds to thousands of orders without increasing overhead.
The Challenge
The client’s Web-to-Print workflow was suffering from a manual chokepoint. Customers were uploading photos from mobile devices in varied formats, aspect ratios, and color profiles. A team of prepress artists had to manually open each file in Photoshop to adjust resolution, apply bleed margins, and convert colors for specific printing substrates (such as canvas, metal, or high-gloss paper).
This manual process was the primary barrier to scaling. It led to high labor costs and human drift—where different artists applied slightly different corrections, resulting in inconsistent print quality. During peak holiday seasons, the backlog of orders waiting for ‘manual prep’ often stretched into days, threatening delivery deadlines and customer trust.
The Solution
Clavis Tech engineered a Headless Photoshop Automation tool designed for high-velocity environments. Our roadmap focused on ‘Intelligent Pre-Flighting.’ Instead of a human opening a file, our plugin intercepts the order data, identifies the product type, and automatically executes a complex sequence of Photoshop Actions.
We implemented Smart-Scale Algorithms to upscale low-res images using AI-driven interpolation, ensuring prints remain sharp at large scales. The solution also automates the creation of ‘Gallery Wraps’ for canvas prints—automatically mirroring image edges to cover the frame sides without losing the main subject. This turned a 10-minute manual design task into a sub-second background process.

Server-Side Batch Orchestration: Enabled Photoshop to run in a ‘headless’ state, processing thousands of files in the background via a centralized queue.
Output Standardization: Guaranteed that every file exported (TIFF, PDF, or PSD) meets the exact resolution and DPI requirements of the fulfillment center.
