The Story
In an era of global digital connectivity, we are often more connected to people thousands of miles away than to those in our immediate vicinity. MochaMeet (now Zocal) set out to change this by creating a hyper-local social ecosystem. Partnering with Clavis Tech, they launched an app designed to spark spontaneous real-world connections. By leveraging high-precision geofencing and AI-driven interest matching, Mochameet has successfully transitioned thousands of digital conversations into meaningful, face-to-face interactions, fostering a vibrant sense of community in urban centers.
The Challenge
The ‘Social Paradox’ was MochaMeet’s primary hurdle: users were active on the app but remained isolated in the real world. Existing social platforms focused on following rather than meeting, leading to passive scrolling rather than active engagement.
The technical challenge was equally daunting. To make ‘MochaMeet’ app work, they required a highly sophisticated, battery-efficient location engine that could track user proximity in real-time without draining mobile resources. Furthermore, the platform needed to solve the ‘Icebreaker’ problem—providing users with a safe, relevant, and low-pressure reason to meet a stranger for a coffee or a quick chat in a crowded city.
The Solution
Clavis Tech engineered a robust, mobile-first architecture that prioritized privacy-first Geolocation and contextual networking. We built the MochaMeet module as a spontaneity engine, using real-time data to alert users when like- minded individuals are nearby.
We implemented a proximity-based matchmaking algorithm that filters connections not just by location, but by shared ‘micro-Interests—such as a specific tech stack, a niche hobby, or a shared professional goal. To ensure user safety and comfort, we integrated a secure, temporary chat interface and safety zones (vetted local cafes and public spaces) where meets are encouraged to take place.
Solution delivered:
- High-precision geofencing: Developed a proprietary location engine that triggers proximity alerts with surgical accuracy while optimizing for low battery consumption.
- MochaMeet engine: Built a recommendation algorithm that analyzes user profiles in real-time to suggest the most compatible instant meets nearby.
- Real-time websocket integration: Implemented low-latency messaging and location syncing to ensure users can coordinate meetups on the fly without delays.
- Interactive heatmaps: Created visual density maps allowing users to identify ‘social hotspots’ in their city where community engagement is highest.
- Vetted venue integration: Partnered with local businesses to display mocha-friendly locations, providing safe and convenient meeting points for users.
- Privacy controls & ghost mode: Engineered granular privacy settings, allowing users to control exactly when and where they are discoverable to others.
A privacy-first geolocation and contextual networking app
The Result
The implementation of the app has established a new technical benchmark for proximity-based social networking. By optimizing the core engine for speed and reliability, Clavis Tech provided the foundation for a seamless user experience.
High-fidelity proximity:
The refined geolocation engine achieved 95% accuracy in geofencing, ensuring alerts are only triggered when users are within the designated 'MochaMeet' radius.
Optimized performance:
Through strategic background process management, the app achieved 85% better battery efficiency compared to standard GPS-heavy social applications.
Zero-lag communication:
The integration of WebSockets ensured a latency of less than 2ms for location pings, allowing for fluid coordination in fast-moving urban environments.
Platform scalability:
The robust backend architecture supports thousands of concurrent real-time proximity checks, enabling Zocal to scale across multiple major cities simultaneously.
Impact by the numbers
A high-performing proximity-based social networking app that helps people connect through shared interests, real-time discovery, smart meetup suggestions, secure chats, privacy controls, and curated public spaces for meaningful interactions.
