Business sTandard Goes Digital

India’s leading business news publication goes digital on all platforms with the growing demand of content accessibility on mobile devices, to increase it reach and readership

Challenge

Business Standard is one of the largest Indian English-language business daily edition newspapers in India. Founded in 1975, it has always maintained high quality coverage of the Indian economy,  international business and financial news. With a print circulation of over 90,000, they needed new avenues to increase reach and readership.

solution

Building apps that gives readers the power to access Live Markets, Live BSE & NSE quotes, latest business news, breaking news, political news, analysis and opinion right in the palm of their hands. Mobile apps were created for the iPhone, iPad, Android phones as well as tablets allowing easy accessibility on all platforms. Banner ads and subscription options gave additional revenue streams.

With over 100,000 downloads, the apps were a big hit with business readers and that gave better analytics to Business Standard that now provides a subscription plan for accessing premium content. The increased stickiness of getting accurate and credibility information immediately had a huge impact on increased reader loyalty.

Creating an app for a business newspaper is different from standard dailies as it includes more graphical representations and tickers that need to be mobile friendly. The team managed to do that effectively even for the iPad.
